Steve Snelling is a pianist, vocalist, and performer with a surprisingly broad palette of musical creativity.

...psychedelic garage to full-on symphonic mayhem.

Lifelong Musician

As a lifelong musician Steve has created or performed in hundreds of ensembles in diverse styles ranging from jazz and be-bop to rock, folk, gospel, country, classical, barbershop, funk, blues and bluegrass, and a head-spinning array of bands in a spectrum Steve describes as "psychedelic garage to full-on symphonic mayhem."

His songwriting is influenced by the music of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Brown, Peter Gabriel and Elvis Costello, and an affinity for artists ranging from Hank Williams to Claude Debussy. Steve calls it "Pop for grownups"—aiming for lyrical meaning over an evocative harmonic landscape suffused with playful melodic embellishment.

Since 2015 he has performed regularly in the devotional ambient-improvisational genre, composing and recording spontaneous pieces in real time. He also performs regularly in liturgical masses and devotional services throughout the Bay Area.

“365 Challenge”

In 2020, Steve undertook a personal "365 Challenge," creating and posting music on his Youtube channel everyday for a year. By the final day on November 1, 2020, he had posted scores of Jazz standards, unique arrangements of classic rock and pop covers, new live versions from his own catalog, and dozens of new original ambient compositions, jazz instrumentals, and songs, among the first of which was "The Farallons."

Steve makes his home in San Francisco, California, where it is almost always just the way he likes it: “sunny and cool.”
